My son and his best friend met as 2 year olds in pre-school, and since then have been practically inseparable. Now aged 8, they play sport together, go to school together and ask for sleep overs every week. They are both quite different but great for each other.

One day at school they were told about a “funny” website by some older boys, which they then tried to look up when they got back to our place that afternoon. It turned out that the “funny” website was a dodgy porn site!

Luckily we had some measures in place which stopped them accessing the site. But this incident made me review what we did have in place and where we could make it better. I also started speaking to a bunch of other parents around how they manage devices and internet access in their homes. It was quickly apparent that internet access and device management was in issue in every home. While every app and device has a level of parental controls, nobody had a simple or easy way to manage their content filtering or screentime management.

So I started helping out friends and researching the best and most straightforward ways to implement safeguards in the home. Now as digitalnest, we are helping other time poor and confused parents get a more balanced approach to technology in their homes.
